NORTH ADAMS, MA –The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Music Program will hold two concerts showcasing students in the College’s wind and jazz ensembles. Tickets are free and walk-ins are welcome.
The wind ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. on April 29, 2019; the jazz band and jazz choir will perform at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019. Both performances will be held in the Eleanor Furst Roberts Auditorium in at the MCLA Church Street Center. Included in both concerts are student vocalists taking private voice lessons and a wide variety of music styles. Students enrolled in private lessons at MCLA will also showcase their talents.
Shantell Manziera ’22 is involved with the wind ensemble for the first time this year. Her favorite part about the wind ensemble “is hearing all of the components of the band come together.” Manziera says that for the upcoming show, “I'm looking forward to showing the audience all the hard work that we've put in for the past semester and acknowledge how far we've come as an ensemble. Being in wind ensemble has taught me that trying something new can be nerve-wracking… but then I came to the realization that I won't grow as a person if I don't go outside my comfort zone.”
Samuel Berthel ’22 has enrolled in the jazz band and choir for the first time this year as well. “I actively enjoy coming to class every Monday and Wednesday, so I get to collaborate with this ensemble. It's often the highlight of my week!” He says he is looking forward to “sharing all of this amazing music we've worked on. People are going to love this set.”
Patrick O’Connell will conduct the concert. He received his master’s of music in performance from Yale University. He has also performed in venues such as the Capital Repertory Theater, Proctors Theatre, Boston Chamber Orchestra, and Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Jeffrey Link will be conducting the jazz band and choir. Link holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Berklee College of Music and is an accomplished bassist. He also instructs at Berkshire Community College, teaching recording techniques and music theory, among other courses. Link is the president of Leftisrightmusic Productions/Publishing which is a publishing clearing house for new artists.
