MCLA Counseling Services (CS) is seeking applications for its first Student Advisory Board to support campus-wide mental health initiatives and input into CS programs and services, beginning Fall 2021. CS strives to have a group that is representative of the MCLA student body, so it welcomes students of all ages, classifications, and residential statuses. Additionally, CS wants students who represent a diverse range of identities and affiliations such as athletes, the LGBTQIA+ community, and communities of color. The CS Student Advisory Board will serve as a vital connection between CS and the campus community.
Black Lives Matter. Counseling Services staff stands with our Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students, staff, faculty, and community members during this time of racist violence, grief and protest.
Racism in the United Stated continues to threaten the lives and safety of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, and we each have a responsibility to actively confront and dismantle it. As professionals who oversee the work of healing and empowering students in their struggles, we recognize the importance of taking a stand and offering support by naming and addressing what causes the illness, wounds, and impairment, i.e. systemic racism and white supremacy. We also acknowledge that there is a more sustained and additional need for facilitating the difficult (and often painful) honest examination and self-work around our individual biases in thought and action, and how that impacts our work with students, colleagues, campuses, communities, friends and family. In this way, we affirm our commitment to anti-racism.
MCLA students in need of support during this time are invited to connect to a counselor by calling the office at 413-662-5331 Monday through Friday between 8:30 am-4:30 pm. For more information on Racial Trauma, click HERE.
Counseling Services is offering teletherapy sessions to students living in Massachusetts (due to licensing statutes) whether you've been a client with us before or not. To schedule an appointment, please call 413-662-5331.
