MCLA Physics Students Design & Build Model for NASA StarShade Undergraduate Challenge

A group of MCLA students received a $1,000 honorarium from NASA in the fall 2023 semester to purchase equipment to design and build a model of a device that would be launched into space as part of the StarShade Undergraduate Challenge.

When David Hoxie '14 was in high school, he was discouraged from attending college and pursuing a physics career. It wasn't until he studied physics at MCLA that he discovered the confidence and support system to pursue graduate school and a career in teaching. That's what brought him to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2014.

The MCLA Athletics Department has launched the first Varsity Esports Program for the Spring 2024 semester. Team members will be able to compete at the collegiate conference and national level by fall under Head Coach Justin MacDowell who has over 20 years of experience in online team-based video games.

For Nathan Haley, a junior at MCLA, a routine semester transformed into an immersive journey into the world of fish culture. As an Environmental Science major, Haley spent the Fall ‘23 semester interning at the Bennington Fish Culture Station, which not only deepened his understanding of aquatic ecosystems but also ignited a passion for fish culture that he envisions as a potential career path after graduation.
