Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announces that registration for summer class sessions is now open. Registration is open to MCLA students, interested community members, high school students, those pursuing a master’s degree, and college students wishing to transfer credits back to their home institution.
MCLA is offering two summer sessions, held in-person and online. Session A runs May 20 through June 28, 2024, and Session B runs July 8 through August 16, 2024. The College has more than 50 online courses to accommodate the schedules of working adults, undergraduates, and high school students.
Summer classes are a way to get ahead in a major or minor, work on general education requirements, explore a new interest, catch up on coursework, get closer to graduation, or focus on a particular subject by taking only one class.
Maia Rice ‘24 is double majoring in psychology and fine and performing arts and took advantage of summer courses for prerequisite classes.
“I really enjoyed the summer classes,” Rice said. “The classes were wonderful. If you're taking summer classes, even if it is just one class that you plan on transferring to another college, it is worthwhile to reach out to professors and get any extra help you need. It may be intimidating but they are so kind and accommodating. They all just want to make sure their students are able to learn the material in such a short time.”
She reflected on the two asynchronous courses she took last summer, as well as a biology class and lab, and how flexible professors were in addition to how the class work and lecture times while balancing work life.
“Taking only one, two, or even three classes over the summer allowed me to learn in a way where I felt able to retain information,” she said. “I could dive deep into the course material without the stress of juggling multiple heavy courseloads at once. This allowed me to take classes while also working.”
With options to fit every schedule and affordable rates, summer sessions can help college students home for the summer to complete prerequisite courses for their degree.
