NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — For the second consecutive year, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has been ranked a Top Ten College by U.S. News and World Report. MCLA ranks as No. 7 on the organization’s list of top public colleges and also appears on U.S. News’ list of Top National Liberal Arts colleges.

This is the highest U.S. News ranking MCLA has earned; the College has appeared on U.S. News’ list of top public colleges for seven of the last nine years.

MCLA also appears on a new U.S. News list: Top Performers on Social Mobility. This list measures how well schools graduate students who receive Federal Pell Grants, which are typically awarded to students whose families make less than $50,000.

“I’m delighted and proud that MCLA is once again ranked among the nation’s top public schools,” said MCLA President James F. Birge, Ph.D. “Ranked seventh among all public liberal arts institutions by U.S. News and World Report, MCLA excels at the quality of our faculty, our graduation rates, and for securing bright futures for our graduates. I’m proud of my colleagues’ efforts to provide a high-quality public liberal arts education for our students, reinforcing what I know well—MCLA is a best-choice college for students and their families.”

U.S. News and World Report ranks colleges based on indicators that reflect a school’s student body, its faculty, and its financial resources, along with outcome measures that signal how well the institution achieves its mission of educating students.
