NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) is pleased to announce
Jon Verney’s MCLA Gallery 51 exhibit “Burning at the Center of Things,” which will
be open from June 27-Aug. 24, 2019, with an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. on June
27 during the first DownStreet Art date of the 2019 season.
Verney’s exhibition will be comprised of framed photographs, altered Polaroids, light-boxes and video projection. Approaching photographs as objects that can be pulled apart, dissected and dissolved, Verney presents a series of works embodying his experimentation and embracing of chance. The focus of the exhibition will be on the results and process of deconstructing a series of found polaroid snapshots.
A 2018 recipient of MASS MoCA’s Assets for Artists grant, Verney has exhibited his work in gallery shows and group exhibitions across the United States and internationally, including at the Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis, Minn.; at the University of the Arts’ Exhibition Laboratory in Helsinki, Finland; and at AS220’s PVDLoop Festival in Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated with distinction from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2010 with a degree in painting, and earned a post-baccalaureate certificate in painting from Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy. He earned his master of fine art in 2016 from the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. See a collection of Verney’s work at http://www.jonverney.com.
