MCLA HOSTS BLACK ROCK FOOTBALL CLUB FOR SUMMER 2019

June 7, 2019
NORTH ADAMS, MA—Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts announces that the College will host coaches and trainees from Black Rock Football Club, a soccer training program that is open to players at all levels.

Black Rock Football Club members will use the College’s facilities and housing as they conduct their summer programming, and games will be held regularly at MCLA’s Joseph Zavattaro Athletic Complex, including the club’s premier USL2 team, a group of amateur players under the age of 23 who play at a professional level while pursuing higher education. Many Black Rock alumni go on to play professional soccer on teams like Manchester United and Iceland’s first-tier club, Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar.

Black Rock Football Club has established itself as a preeminent club in America, having produced many top college players and young professionals. The club has gained national acclaim for its exciting brand of attacking football and its focus on player development both on and off the field. In 2017, a strategic alliance was formed between Jon Moodey (Black Rock), Mark Gillon (GPS Stateline) and Rich Powell (Soccer Domain Academy) to better serve players within Berkshire County and the surrounding regions. The new club structure provides development and competitive opportunities for the prep school players (U15-U19) in addition to players within the public-school sector (U5-U19).

“We’re happy to be back home in the Berkshires this summer,” said Tony Mohammed, Black Rock’s chief operations officer. “We really want the community to rally around the team. They’re awesome—and it’s a chance for the community to watch some high-level soccer and get a chance to see some future professional athletes.”

“The MCLA Athletic Department is pleased to be supporting the Black Rock Football Club this summer,” said Associate Athletic Director Dot Houston. “We are honored to provide the home venue for a variety of their soccer events on our pitch.”

In addition to use of facilities, MCLA’s dining services provider, Aramark, will be providing meals to soccer teams who stay overnight.
